Length of time in industry | 14 years in legal, 20 years in training |
What do you like about your role? | Being the bridge between tech and non-tech type people. Understanding what makes people tick, and how to positively influence behaviours to improve technical performance. |
What is challenging within your role? | The biggest challenges come from any one in the business (at any level) who refuse to be engaged with change or technology. |
What advice would you give someone starting out? | Remain calm, be interested (in the business and its people), listen / gain as much information before giving advice, and keep building those positive relationships with your allies / people you can learn from. |
If you weren't working in legal, what do you think you'd be doing? | In my youth, an underground 'hipster' DJ. Now, with a 6 year old daughter, a full time dad with plenty of fun family time. |
Tell us about an "average" day, or if every day is different tell us about a recent day | Due to the small size of the team versus the size of users in our law firm, I often keep a hand in training and management. Today, as an example, I trained a group of new starters on Management Information, consulted with the Projects Team on Agile Working with iPads, reviewed the team’s performance, replied to numerous support emails, created the IT Training monthly report for the senior management team and recorded my time. |
